SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Marathon Oil Norge AS as subsidiary of Marathon Oil Corporation has long established core values of honesty and integrity, high standards for health, safety and environmental stewardship, valuing the individual and diversity in a high performance team culture, and advocating corporate citizenship through social responsibility. This Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy is a continuing commitment to these core values. MONAS acknowledges that its actions and operations affect stakeholders - investors, employees, customers, suppliers, communities, business partners and host governments - and undertakes to promote sustainable social, environmental and economic benefits wherever the Company operates.

Marathon Oil's commitments to CSR means being accountable to stakeholders for actions on a basis of respect, cooperation, stewardship and sustainable investments. This CSR policy has its foundation in the following nine elements.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

With full recognition that doing business in a community is a privilege, Marathon Oil Norge will manage its operations in a manner that respects the rights of, and furthers sustainable and responsible investing in, the communities in which we live and operate.

STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT

Marathon Oil Norge supports the creation of relationships with internal and external stakeholders to seek cooperation and alignment among the concerned parties. The company will integrate the knowledge gained from these engagements, as appropriate, into the company's business processes and strategies.

CAPACITY BUILDING

Marathon Oil Norge encourages the establishment of mechanisms that allow communities, or even governments, to empower themselves to ensure their own development and sustainability through their own human capital. Marathon Oil Norge will assist stakeholders, as appropriate, to meet the capacity building challenges they face.

TRANSPARENCY

Marathon Oil Norge endorses transparency in the revenue flows from oil and gas production and supports initiatives (such as the Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative, or EITI) that promote the publication of oil and gas revenues by producing countries. Marathon Oil recognizes this requires full cooperation among producing countries and the companies active in those countries, as well as full respect for local contracts, commitments and laws. Marathon Oil Norge encourages government-to-government dialogue, reporting of revenues on an aggregated basis, and will offer assistance, as appropriate, to implement transparency programs.

RULE OF LAW

Marathon Oil Norge values the ‘rule of law' - the process by which the authority of a government at all levels is exercised in accordance with written laws and well established procedures. The Company will work as appropriate and within its sphere of influence to encourage local authorities to observe the rule of law. Marathon Oil Norge will also advocate, to the extent practical, against arbitrary decisions.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Marathon Oil Norge is committed to continuous learning and will establish, as appropriate, training and development programs to enhance human resources both within the Company and in the communities where our operations are located. Marathon Oil Norge will focus on the well-being and improvement of the workforce and manage knowledge by sharing successes and lessons learned.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

Marathon Oil Norge conducts its business with high regard for the health and safety of its employees, contractors and neighbouring communities and is committed to reducing the impact of its operations on the environment. In alignment with its Health, Environment and Safety policy, Marathon Oil Norge upholds high standards for environmental, health and safety performance as fundamental to the Company's business processes.

HUMAN RIGHTS

Marathon Oil Norge respects the human, cultural and legal rights of individuals and communities and promotes, within its sphere of influence and legitimate business role, the goals and principles of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Company supports this Declaration through its participation in the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights, a multi-stakeholder set of principles intended as a guide for maintaining safety and security of operations.

CSR PERFORMANCE REPORTING

Marathon Oil Norge acknowledges that reporting non-financial performance (including HES and CSR) is an important tool for measuring progress and advancing stakeholder dialogue. Marathon Oil Corporation is committed to providing periodic reports that provide an accurate, balanced and reasonable account of its CSR performance. CSR performance will be reported at the corporate level in alignment with standard industry practice.
